The Next New Thing

I think the next new media will be use of holograms.  The world would be equipped with these projectors so people  can be with each other without being physically there.  This can be used for meeting, classes, and work.  People can stay at home and do basically anything any where in the world.  The use of holograms can allow someone to be at multiple places at one time.  So a person can teach 2 or more classes at a time in multiple places.  Another business use of holograms is that it allows you to collaborate and participate with people from other offices.  The use of holograms can let people dress their holograms in what ever they want so they can express themselves in a way they would otherwise not.  In addition the use of holograms can allow people to test clothes before they buy it.

  1. This is a good idea, especially with everyone's busy schedule executives frequently find it difficult to physically attend all of their scheduled meetings. I believe Cisco Systems recently proposed some similar virtual meeting software as well (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/ps5664/ps5669/index.html).

  2. Is it somewhat like webcam?? But this is absolutely a good idea.because that can save our time and also expenses, like we don't have to fly to attend the cross nation or international meeting. But I don't quite understand how people test the clothes?, how they try on?

  3. I guess you can say the webcam can be used to make your original avatar/hologram. I was thinking if holograms become mainstream technology you can project yourself in your own living room and then use your computer or some other device to dress your hologram. This way you can see how certain clothing would look on yourself.

  4. I definitely think holograms have potential and can beneficially used in a variety of means as you have mentioned above. I do question how practical it would be for private holography say for example a mobile device. I wouldn't want someone seeing everything I am doing. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing what developments will be made with this tech.

  5. Holograms just seem so futuristic to me lol. It's a good idea but may be costly to develop projectors. For now I think having webcams can work just as fine for virtual meetings. Either way it saves time. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

  6. What a cool concept ! Reminds me of something from Star Wars. It would be amazing how far this technology could go. We might be able to one day record a full holographic video for someone to watch as opposed to just a video of our face on webcam. I agree with what Oliver mentioned about Holograph projectors being too expensive, but technology can always be imitated and cheaper alternatives will be around. Maybe one day we'll be able to have a holographic picture of ourselves to remind us of how we looked when we were younger !
